Still That Superhero Of Mine

______________________________

The highly-anticipated gay wedding issue of Archie Comics has finally been revealed.

The January issue’s cover illustration shows Kevin Keller, Riverdale’s first openly gay character who is also an active U.S. military officer, tying the knot with his African-American partner, Clay Walker.

It should also be noted that because of his astronomical success, Keller will be getting his ongoing series in February.

How Archie seems to get it (and get it right) while other comic book companies pay lip service to diversity amazes me to no end.

And my internet wife RVC Bard made the best point: constantly amazed that mainstream kid-friendly shit gets it right when so much of m/m fic gets it all wrong

Archie Comics: DOING IT RIGHT!!!!!!!!

Like I needed another reason to fall in love with this character.

  1. Archie can do it. With their audience, their demographic (stereotypically anyway) and their media – there’s no excuse for anyone else not doing it.

  2. Man, I am so happy that this is going down and doing well. I was honestly sceptical of it all at first, mainly because of how I’ve seen gay men portrayed elsewhere in not only Marvel and DC, but on TV and movies as well.

Thankfully, from all that I’ve heard, it’s been awesome and people need more positive portrayals of gay people like Kevin Keller.

  3. Seriously? Archie? Wow! I always thought of Archie comics as the last holdout for some mythical 1950’s thing. Man am I gonna have to play catch-up. Oh wait, wasn’t this the same comic fanboys had shit fits over because Archie was kissing Valerie from Josie and the Pussycats?
